Powering the World with Renewables Within our Grasp?
February 2nd, 2011Link: http://news.stanford.edu/pr/2011/pr-jacobson-world-energy-012611.html
Encouraging news from two researchers Mark Z. Jacobson, Stanford University researcher, along with Mark A. Delucci UC-Davis researcher.
The world can be powered by current alternative energy technologies in 20-40 years. Sounds imposible you say? "But it is possible, without even having to go to new technologies," Jacobson said. "We really need to just decide collectively that this is the direction we want to head as a society."
How do we decide and act collectively to move to safe, clean renewable energy? Many have compared this to the scale of an Apollo moon landing. We at Solar Pie think it can happen faster and moreeffectively with the large scale desemination of knowledge and awareness building to accelerate market forces.
What do you think?
Snohomish County PUD Connects with Solar Pie
August 9th, 2009One of the very first people to email us was Doris Abravanel Program Manager of Planet Power at Snohomish County PUD. She wanted to insure that Snohomish County PUD customers had all the information they needed about green power creation. I'll share with you her email so you can get the imformation straight from the source.
Way to go Snohomish County and the Snohomish County PUD.
Hi,
I read the article featuring your solar installation and blog
and would like to introduce myself. I'm program manager of
Planet Power at Snohomish County PUD. Planet Power is our voluntary
green power program which funds additional green power development.
We are currently focusing on solar PV. The Planet Power program is for
our customers only but wanted you to be aware as we keep trying to get
the word out so more PUD customers will enroll in the program. I want
solar enthusiasts such as yourselves knowing about our program as you
can help spread the word. To date, we have 2 completed solar demonstrations
projects and four more installations going. We plan to do a competitive
solicitation to select more hosts for demonstration projects this fall.Read more about our program at
www.snopud.com/planetpower
http://www.snopud.com/planetpowerWe also have incentives for customer's to do their own solar through another program we started this Spring called Solar Express.

Sustainable Housing Star
July 20th, 2009Every single day we read of green building pioneers. Each pioneer adds to the rich mix of smart models we can learn from. Green roofs, Solar PV, Solar Thermal..heating water and radiant floors, storing water runoff, smart meters, power strips all add up to a smart way of life for all of us. Bravo Peter Reefman for walking the walk..and blazing a trail.
Worlds Largest Solar Array to be Installed in Milan
July 9th, 2009
Milan is counting down the days it will be in the world record books. The Milan Trade Fair solar rooftop array will generate eighteen megawatts..six megawatts larger than the current record holder atop the General Motors facillity in Zaragoza, Spain.
These forward thinking developers are locking in utility rates for the next twenty five years. We also applaud the fact that this installation was built on an existing building...not raw land. We like built on built. Smart policies lead to smart choices. We look forward to the day we will have the largest solar installation in the world in the United States.
